The (World Champions Rodeo Alliance) brings the four-day Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo to Fort Worth, Texas, at the legendary Cowtown Coliseum Dec. 15-18. Eight athletes per discipline go head-to-head in the long rounds (December 15-17) with the Top 2 runs from each performance advancing to the Triple Crown of Rodeo performance on December 18.
Earning her spot in the Triple Crown perf on December 18 was futurity trainer Sharin Hall, Pilot Point, Texas, riding the phenomenal mare Hello Stella to a 13.55 to top the second perf on December 16. Hall earned $1,600 for her efforts. Also advancing via her seeded position was Cotulla, Texas, cowgirl London Gorham. Gorham ran a 13.63 to earn second in the perf and $1,200. Due to Gorham’s seeded status, Jordan Driver, who finished third in the Saturday perf also advances. Driver, of Garden City, Texas, stopped the clock in 13.71 seconds to earn $800.
Topping the first perf on Dec. 15 was Ari-Anna Flynn, of Charleston, Ark., with a time of 13.53, which was worth $1,600. Flynn edged second-place Sherri Barnes of Pilot Point, Texas, with her time of 13.78 worth $1,200.
The event, which got underway on Wednesday, Dec. 15, showcases more than 200 athletes competing in each of the nine rodeo disciplines: bareback riding, women’s breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping heading, team roping heeling, tie-down roping, barrel racing, and bull riding. A collective $360,000 will be on the line, and each champion will be awarded a check for $12,500.
The Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo is the final of three Major events comprising the 2021 WCRA Triple Crown of Rodeo. The WCRA Triple Crown of Rodeo is a trilogy of Major rodeos offering a $1 million bonus to any one athlete or collection of athletes who win first place in any three consecutive majors. The first stop of the 2021 series was held in Corpus Christi, Texas, followed by an event in Salt Lake City.
Those athletes who were victorious in Salt Lake City at the Days of ’47 Cowboy Games and Rodeo, who will be looking for their second win to remain Triple Crown eligible are: Clayton Biglow (Bareback Riding), Tanner Green (Team Roping- Header), Tyler Waguespack (Steer Wrestling), Tacy Kay Webb (Breakaway Roping), and Ryan Jarrett (Tie-Down Roping).
