The barrel racing community is mourning after an announcement from Andrea Busby on Facebook about the death of Busby Quarter Horses’ industry-altering stallion, Blazin Jetolena.

We hoped this day would never come but the inevitable has arrived,” Busby wrote. “It is with profound sadness we share the news that Blazin Jetolena passed away last night.

He died peacefully of a sudden cardiac event at 11:05 P.M. It is impossible to convey something that has forever changed your life. The magical ride he has taken us on was more than anything we ever dreamed of. We were so honored to own him, care for him and to simply be in his presence.

The hole this leaves in our hearts and at the ranch is immense. There are a million things that could be said to describe him, but the legacy he leaves us with is more than words could ever say. He was laid to rest today at the Busby Ranch Headquarters, surrounded by those who cared for him and loved him deeply.

RIP Jet 4/28/1999 – 1/17/2023.”

Andrea Busby rode Blazing With My Dude, “Tito,” by Blazin Jetolena to victory at the Cheyenne Frontier Days in 2022. Tito, a 2015 mare, boasts over $106,000 in lifetime earnings.

“Jet,” as he was affectionately known, leaves behind an impressive legacy in all facets of the barrel racing community. He stood just 14.3 hands, but that didn’t stop him earning over $95,000 in his own career before his breeding career began.

According to QData, Blazin Jetolena has 659 total AQHA-registered foals, of which 322 are money-earners. The total money won by Blazin Jetolena progeny is $6,463,160, averaging out to $20,072 per money-earner.

Blazin Jetolena’s reign looks to continue in the breeding industry through stallions like Blazin Honor and A Blazin Dude, who are both owned by Busby Quarter Horses. His daughters are proving to be producers as well, with Famous Black Beauty producing 2021 WPRA Barrel Racing Horse of the Year, Famous Lil Jet, “Rollo,” who took Jordon Briggs to her world championship the same year.
