Halyn Lide and Keeper Clinch Spot in WCRA Days of ‘47 Gold Medal Round With Third Performance Win

Halyn Lide Days of '47

Halyn Lide, of China Springs, Texas, and Keeper finished first with a 17.199 during the third performance of the WCRA Utah Days of ’47 semi-final rounds on Friday, July 23. They were awarded $1,600 for their win and qualified for the Gold Medal Round on Monday, July 25.

“I was pretty anxious about it,” Lide said. “Having gone to Corpus, I knew how much fun these are and I really wanted to have that spot secured.”

Lide rode Keeper, a 10-year-old gelding registered Jettin Ta Heaven by JL Dash Ta Heaven and out of Zeros Gypsy Jet, which had been raised by her and her husband. He has the name Keeper because when her husband, Aaron, started him, he told her, “This one’s a Keeper.”

“He’s just gonna turn the barrels, he’s always wanted to do it, it’s his favorite thing to do,” Lide said. “Our run didn’t feel perfect, I don’t know what happened at the first barrel, but it felt like it took a minute to get out of, but he kept moving really good. He even shook his head at me at the second, but like I said, he kept moving and it worked out.”

Lide, who won the WCRA rodeo in Corpus Christi, Texas, in May is looking for another WCRA win and a gold medal on Monday.

Tonight’s round winner will determine the final spot in the Gold Medal round, as well as the three wild card spots.
